1.      What did you do last year that you had never done before? Ever since Jubilee was born, many of the things that I had never done before are related to her experiencing things for the very first time. Things like taking care of a sick baby because she got a fever first the first time, or flying with my baby because she traveled by airplane for the first time. It’s hard to distinguish my firsts from her firsts; we’re learning together, and it’s been amazing. A few more firsts for us were visiting the zoo, visiting the children’s museum in San Jose, potty training, getting her passport, trick-or-treating, and singing songs together. As for myself, I went on my first business trip since having Jubilee, got into a major accident last spring that totaled my car (the guy did a hit and run on the freeway), went to House of Prime Rib, planned a baby shower, tried my hand at calligraphy, cried at work, and successfully cooked kalua pork, mushroom ris...

In 2018

What did you do in 2018 that you'd never done before? I was a mom and also worked full time. I fed my baby with my body for 5 months. I cradled her to sleep each night. I wiped away her tears after each stumble, nightmare, and vaccination. I laughed when she was happy, cried when she was sad, and missed her desperately when we were apart. I taught her how to clap her hands, point to objects, and say simple phrases. During the hard days, I longed for my life before her, but then she hugs my face and calls me Mama, and I cannot imagine my life without her. Before 2018, I had never doubted myself more or disagreed with Chris so much; however, through these growing pains our relationship has never been stronger, and I’m gradually (re)building self-confidence again. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for 2019? My resolution last year was to take it easy and give myself grace when it comes to losing the baby weight and getting ...

In 2017

Better late than never! What did you do in 2017 that you'd never done before? I attended my grandma’s funeral, saw the Backstreet Boys in concert in Vegas, saw Ali Wong live in SF, saw Demetri Martin live in Reno, switched to an Android phone, got pregnant, traveled to London, visited the Warner Bros. studio tour for Harry Potter, visited Stonehenge, took a glucose test, went to a hockey game, remodeled our home, was admitted to the hospital, had a blood transfusion, and, oh yes, had a baby! Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for 2018? My resolutions last year were to read the Bible more consistently and get in better shape. I kept up my reading resolution for maybe the first quarter of the year (so fail), and since I got pregnant, I took a break from the gym to be extra cautious. For 2018, I want to take it easy and give myself grace when it comes to losing the baby weight and getting back to my old self again. I do also want to read the Bi...

In 2016

What did you do in 2016 that you'd never done before? I got a CA driver’s license (at long last), literally slept with the fishes at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, dyed my hair brown, bought a car (I’ve ever only leased in the past), went to an Olympic weightlifting meet and watched Chris compete admirably, vacationed in Hawaii, possibly broke a bone (I never confirmed with a doctor, but it eventually healed fine), and took a fancy cooking class with my church for our Christmas party Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for the new year? I did not make any resolutions last year. This year, however, I plan to read the Bible daily or at least more consistently. The Bible app on my phone has helped me stay on track with the reading plan that I picked. Also, I really do want to get back in shape. I simply need to commit to the gym again. Did anyone close to you give birth? Yes – Bonnie, Cristina, and Jamie Did anyone close to you die? No...
